Elementary School

Welcome back, Parents!

I hope you and your family have had a great summer and that you are ready for an exciting year in our new ES building. Also, a special welcome goes out to our new families to CAC. There will be a special welcome gathering in the Elementary Hall (in the basement of the new building) following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:00 a.m. An orientation for new parents will be held in Room 600 at 8:30 a.m. to bring you up to date on what you will need to know as a new parent to CAC.

My name is Tony Moniz, and I will be the new ES principal at CAC. I look forward to meeting you all and learning more about your child’s experiences at CAC. I am very excited to work with our wonderful faculty in our new Elementary School building and to welcome you on Sunday morning. My wife, Deanna, and I are very pleased to be in Cairo and back in a desert climate again. We have heard many great reports about CAC from parents whom we’ve come across in previous schools where we have worked (Casablanca American School, The American International School of Abu Dhabi, and public schools in Ontario, Canada) which prompted us to apply for the position when it became available.

Deanna and I are active school members who like to build a positive school environment and a cohesive community with the help of parents and staff. Constant review of student learning and student/parent involvement is, and always has been, a big emphasis for us; and we hope to work as a community to accomplish this.

School begins August 15 for Kindergarten through Grade 12. Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade 1 timelines are posted on the website. Kindergarten classes will end early for the first two weeks so that students can transition to a full day beginning August 29. All students will enter the school through the Main Gate for the first few weeks of school. However, the Main Gate will be closed once demolition of the old ES begins. A new gate to the right of the current main gate will then be utilized per an email you received from Dr. Mockrish, our Superintendent. For new families, there will be teachers posted at the gates to help you find your way to the ES. We ask that you please not take your child to his/her classroom on the first day, but instead wait out front of the ramp near your child’s labeled class marker so that you may attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony to the new building at 8:00 a.m. We will then proceed down the stairs to the Elementary Hall for our opening day assembly. All parents are welcome to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as the assembly afterwards.

Please email Ms. Carrel or myself if you have any further questions about the first day of school. Again, welcome and please be sure to say hello and introduce yourself.

Sincerely,

Mr. T. Moniz
