MS ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

YEARBOOK - GRADES 7 & 8

In this course students prepare and publish the Middle School yearbook. Students will become proficient at using the Adobe CS6 application package which includes: InDesign, Photoshop and Bridge. Students will also learn about journalism, and photojournalism as it applies to the yearbook. Innovative ideas, the ability to meet deadlines, commitment, availability to shoot photos at after school events and on weekends, are expectations for students who select this course. Current Grade 7 Yearbook students are encouraged to sign up and continue with the course the following year in Grade 8.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY & GRAPHIC DESIGN

The goal of this course is to demystify the process of digital photography and provide participants with the background to produce high quality digital images. The course will cover the entire process of digital workflow, starting with the taking of the picture, through the downloading and editing of images using Photoshop CS6, and concluding with the sharing of images. It will review both the technical foundation of digital imaging and the practical tools required to achieve high quality images. Students will gain an understanding of how digital imaging and graphic arts are used in branding, advertising and graphic design. A digital portfolio will provide evidence of student learning.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Video Production is a hands-on course designed to teach students to use digital video production camera and editing techniques. Students will work on a variety of media projects both independently and as part of a group. This course covers shot composition, camera techniques, planning, script writing, lighting and editing. Students will use iMac computers along with digital video cameras and movie editing software to produce a variety of video projects.
