PHILOSOPHY
The discipline of Social Studies involves students as active participants in the learning of historical, economical, political, cultural, and geographical concepts to develop perspectives into local and global issues. By recognizing and understanding the challenges of change, students learn social science skills through experiential, collaborative and research approaches. As students expand their awareness from personal to societal to global, they think critically about the human condition and become motivated to serve our local and global community.

Course Description: |
US History is a combined course open to 11th and 12th grade students. Students delve into the social, political, cultural, and economic strands of United States History by learning to analyze sources, recognize and weigh historical interpretations, and articulate ideas through writing. A heavy emphasis is placed on identifying themes between past and present in an effort to prepare students to become engaged, knowledgeable citizens in their society. Time periods covered include:

American passport holders must take a U.S. History course to meet CAC graduation requirements; however, this requirement will be waived for those registered for the full IB Diploma. If the student should withdraw from the full IB Diploma program, then the student must fulfill the U.S. history requirement. |
