Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s edition of the Middle School News and Views. Our third and final trimester began this week with many of our students beginning new elective and exploratory courses. Our elective programs provide our students with the opportunity to explore and learn new skills. This new experience helps to shape them as learners and motivate them to persevere through challenges. The Middle School fosters an environment where students are celebrated, not tolerated.

Students from the CAC middle school attended the International Theatre Schools Association (ISTA) Drama Festival in Toulouse, France from Feb. 23rd - 26th. The theme for the festival was "Life, but not as we know it" which was about the question: if there were alien races looking down on us what would they think about humanity?. CAC students worked with the ISTA artists in ensembles and as a whole group, to create an inspirational and memorable piece of theatre about what it is to be human. CAC students stayed with host families of the International School of Toulouse (IST). Students came back from the festival inspired, and filled with new ideas and new international friendships!

We had the Battle of the Books final competition during advisory on Wednesday morning. It was a great event that lasted for several months. In the end, our students had the opportunity to Skype with several authors.

Our Trimester Two Report Cards will be issued via Skyward on Tuesday, March 7th at 3:00 pm. These reports will include important information related to your child’s learning traits and academic achievement. Parents can log in to our online reporting system, SKYWARD to access the reports. Detailed instructions regarding how to access report cards will be emailed to parents on Sunday. Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance to you. You can also send an email to if you need any technical assistance. We hope that you will find these reports to be informative, and we encourage you to open up a dialogue with your children about their learning. While we know the grades are important “symbols of learning,” we believe that the essential conversations that take place between students and parents should be focused on “what did you learn?” and not “what did you earn?” Do take the time to talk with your children about their learning experiences in their classes.

Please focus your attention on the Learning Traits that we report on separately from academic achievement. We firmly believe in developing these learning traits and that there is a direct correlation between these, and academic success.

Next week, in the theater on Tuesday, March 7th, CAC ES/MS will be hosting the city-wide Spelling Bee competition. There will be nine other schools participating. Each school has gone through the process of selecting their top three spellers, therefore; this will be the final round. Come out and support the students. Go Eagles Go!

Our Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up soon, taking place on Tuesday, March 14th from 3:30 - 5:00 pm and a full day session on Wednesday, March 15th from 7:55 am – 5:10 pm.

Tuesday will be drop-in conferences where you will not need to make any appointments to see the teachers. It will be on a first come, first served basis. All cross-over MS/HS teachers – Mr. MacCuaig, Mr. Gallois, Mr. Pedrett, Mr. Orion, and Ms. Jeong will be available to meet with you during the drop-in parent teacher conference session on Tuesday only in the ES Hall.

There will be no school for Middle School students on Wednesday, March 15th, but we do ask parents to bring their child with them to the conferences.

Thank you for supporting the middle school and all we do to develop students who are socially and emotionally balanced.

Lost and Found

Part of educating students at CAC is encouraging independence through increasing responsible behaviors. We constantly encourage students to label their items so that they are easily identified and returned back to the owner. It is also important that students know what to do when they lose any of their items.

Here is what we advise students to do when they report a lost item:

1- Look everywhere (lost & found table/class/playground/inside backpacks/home ,etc,...)
2- Ask Others (friends/teachers/parents/siblings,etc,..)
3-Ask parents to report to the lost and found link. Upper grade students can do this too.
4- Use the same link to report when item is found.

In order to support our students and community members with the above process, we created the below Lost and Found link to help us track of lost and found items.
