"Walking was the metaphor of how far you can go"
"In Africa, nobody stands alone, a community will help you"
"This journey taught me Empathy, Humanity and sharing"
The Alumni and Community Engagement Office would like to thank our alumna Sahar Al-Arishy '83 for arranging for our students to meet a fascinating special guest speaker, Mr. Mario Rigby on Wednesday February 7. Mario did a once-in-a-lifetime solo expedition to trek across the entire African continent from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt entirely by foot and paddle boat only. After traveling over 12,000 km he reached Cairo, Egypt. He came to CAC to share inspiring stories of his journey about the everyday lives of Africans. His stories highlighted the rich cultures, environments, and wildlife. As Mario spoke with our students about his journey, he inspired our students to reflect -"Walking was the metaphor of how far you can go". "In Africa, nobody stands alone, a community will help you"
According to Mario his take away from this journey was that it taught him empathy, humanity, and sharing. Our students were privileged to hear from someone first hand, who lived our CAC core values of courage, perseverance, respect, and responsibility.
