First Week Reflections

It has been a great full week of learning at CAC, and a busy one, too! If you are new to our community, you will find that CAC is a school with much going on, most of the time! Teachers taught and students thought….great to see IBS-1 Physics students wrestling with acceleration problems in Mr. Miller’s Science lab, and to see Spanish 1 students introducing themselves using brand new vocabulary to one another in Mr. Pedrett’s Middle School Spanish A class, as well as kids thinking, learning, discussing, and writing in the other classrooms I’ve observed this week. It was also SO great to see Mr. McCuaig’s HS Choir class bringing the music to the Secondary Admin offices on Wednesday morning...they sounded really good at this early point in the year.  Read More

Welcome Back!! Great Opening to SY 2016-17!!

I can imagine few things in a professional’s working life as re-invigorating and hope-filled as the first day of school. Students rushing in to see friends, sparkling clean shoes and new backpacks, smiles and hugs, discovering new teachers and who is in your class….all symbols of the great hope and joy that first day of each new school year. Educators are fortunate to get this chance each year to ‘reboot’ and start fresh with such potential for growth and learning. So are students!

CAC opened Wednesday with healthy enrollment (numbers are still shifting, but it appears fairly certain that we will officially ‘grow’ for the first time in five years...small growth, to be sure, and not sustained, but it is the first glimmer of growth in my five years at CAC...and a huge relief). Orientation on Tuesday was busy with 140 new families joining our community and trying to keep up with an avalanche of new information.
