FIBER ARTS AND CRAFTS Open or Close
In this course students are introduced to the batik process of drawing and painting on cloth with wax. They plan their design and followed through the creative process of learning to paint with dyes. Emphasis on student learning is centred on developing a strong foundation in understanding the elements and principles, techniques, and creative processes as they apply to Fiber Arts. Students participate in class discussions, develop creative problem-solving skills and connect key concepts between the visual arts and other subject areas.

GENERAL ART Open or Close
This course offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of different art-making methods and materials and is focused on creating art for the end of year art auction. Students will strive to develop and achieve a high level of craftsmanship in their work. The emphasis on student learning is centred on developing a strong foundation for understanding the elements and principles, techniques and processes and how they are applied to the creative process. Students participate in class discussions, develop creative problem-solving skills and connect key concepts between the visual arts and other subject areas. Creativity, craftsmanship, personal effort, and critical thinking are all included in the grading process.

PUBLIC ART Open or Close

This course is focused on nurturing a student’s interest, and skills, in drawing and painting using a variety of media such as pencil, watercolor, pastel and acrylic. Students participate in class discussions, develop creative problem-solving skills and connect key concepts between the visual arts and other subject areas.

SCULPTURE Open or Close
This course investigates constructing 3-D sculptural forms using a variety of materials such as cardboard, paper mache, clay, plaster and found objects. The emphasis on student learning is centred on developing a strong foundation for understanding the elements and principles, techniques and creative processes specific to sculpture. Students participate in class discussions, develop creative problem-solving skills and connect key concepts between the visual arts and other subject areas. They learn different ways of constructing forms, how to add details, and how to finish their work with a good level of craftsmanship.
