World Scholar's Cup Tournament of Champions at Yale

Congratulations to CAC's World Scholar's Cup teams who braved sub-zero temperatures last week as they represented Egypt at the WSC Tournament of Champions (ToC) at Yale University in the United States. The ToC is the culminating event of the World Scholar's Cup season, and students qualified to attend through their outstanding performance at the Global Round in Beijing in June, and the Cairo Round before that, representing around eleven months of scholarly dedication and pursuit of knowledge. Over five frantic, friendly and freezing days the teams debated, wrote essays, completed exhaustive exams and generally tested their knowledge of this year's theme, A World on the Margins. The days were long and exhausting but the enthusiasm of our students never wavered. Debates were won and lost, but more importantly, boundaries were broken and friendships were formed in this most diverse championship in the program's history, with 62 countries represented. Away from the competitive events, teams also had the opportunity to tour Boston and the beautiful campuses of Harvard and MIT, as well as enjoy social experiences, dance the night away, sample New England cuisine and even find time for a little shopping. At the end of it all there were trophies and medals but the true outcome of the event cannot be measured in awards and accolades. It is in the memories made, the horizons broadened and possibilities unleashed. Congratulations to 9th graders Safwan and Ilyes, 8th graders Marwan, Henry, Safiyah, Rainey, Trinity, Aaron, and former Eagle Zach.
