Living in Egypt - Five Perks of Life in Cairo

There are few places in the world as well known as Egypt. After all, it’s the home of the only Great Wonder of the Ancient World still standing. But beyond the famous pyramids and stories of mummies and treasure, is a vibrant country that blends old world charm with contemporary conveniences.
From the culture to the cuisine, living in Egypt’s capital city of Cairo offers a kaleidoscope of experiences. So if you’re considering expat living in this bustling city, join us in this blog series as we explore life in Cairo.
Perk #1 - History at Your Doorstep
Okay, this one is a little obvious. But it’s also amazing! The remnants of Egypt’s illustrious past are everywhere, offering expats a profound connection to the roots of civilization. You’ll definitely want to explore the pyramids, but there’s also SO much more - sail down (actually up!) the Nile to the Valley of the Kings, hike Mt. Sinai, visit mosques and churches dating back to the Middle Ages (and earlier). And that’s just the beginning - it would take years to explore all of the amazing historical sites of Egypt!
Perk #2 - The Red Sea
When you picture Egypt, you probably see pyramids, camels and sand. So much sand! Well, as long as you're picturing sand, go ahead and throw an image of a beautiful beach into your mind too! The lush Red Sea coastline is home to incredible beaches and resorts, and the Red Sea itself offers some of the world’s best snorkeling and diving. We’re talking giant turtles, dolphins, manta rays, and even whale sharks! With multiple coastal towns featuring everything from luxurious all-inclusive resorts to beachside “glamping”, there’s no shortage of fun ways to spend a long weekend at the beach.
Perk #3 - Cost of Living
The fun is big, but the prices aren’t! Of course, like anywhere else in the world, luxury lifestyle choices can carry a big price tag, but for most expats, everyday life in Cairo is much less expensive than many other areas of the world. Expat families are typically able to live quite comfortably, afford domestic help (more on that in a minute), travel both inside and outside of Egypt, and still have funds available to save.
Perk #4 - Domestic Help
Moving to a new country can be daunting, but thankfully, it’s easy to get help with all kinds of day to day tasks in Egypt, allowing you to focus more on transitioning your family and/or career to Cairo. Housekeepers are pretty common, typically helping with household chores and often doubling as nannies or cooks (or both). Drivers are also available, as are gardeners if you have a house or apartment with an outdoor space. Not only is help widely available, it’s also fairly inexpensive.
Perk #5 - Delivery
Another fantastic convenience is the ease of delivery. Just a few taps on your smartphone, and you can have fresh produce, coffee, or dinner delivered right to your door. And it doesn’t stop at food - medications, household items, electronics and more are just a click away. Talabat, Elmenus, InstaShop, Noon, and Amazon Egypt are just a few of the many apps that you’ll come to know and love!
Bonus Perk - Year-Round Sunshine
This is a big one! The sun is almost always shining in Cairo! Not gonna lie, the summer heat can be intense, but the low humidity levels keep the heat from being unbearable. With mild winters, bookended by pleasant autumn and spring months, outdoor activities are enjoyable year-round.
