Jennifer Cate ’89 | Executive Director, Hands Along the Nile

Jennifer A. Cate, an alumna of Cairo American College (CAC) class of 1989, has built a distinguished career in international development and nonprofit leadership. Her journey reflects a profound commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and supporting communities in need.

After graduating from CAC, Jennifer pursued higher education at Wheaton College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. She furthered her studies with a Master of Arts from the American University in Cairo, deepening her connection to Egypt and its culture. Additionally, she holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University, equipping her with essential skills for her future endeavors.

Jennifer's professional journey is marked by extensive international experience, having lived and worked in countries such as Iran, Syria, Kazakhstan, and Egypt. This global perspective has been instrumental in her role as Executive Director of Hands Along the Nile Development Services (HANDS), a position she has held since 2005. Under her leadership, HANDS has focused on building bridges between Americans and Egyptians, supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of life for underserved communities along Egypt's Nile Valley.

One of the organization's notable efforts includes providing microloans to struggling Egyptian families, supporting vocational training for unemployed youth, and engaging in various life-changing opportunities. Jennifer's dedication to these causes has not only impacted countless lives in Egypt but has also strengthened the bonds of mutual respect and understanding between diverse cultures.
