As the world faces the challenges of climate change and the need for sustainable energy solutions becomes more pressing, engineering education has taken on even greater significance.

The urgent need to address these issues has made sustainable energy a topic of immense importance and interest for students. To ensure that a diverse range of students can engage with this critical issue, educational outreach is essential. By providing opportunities for a wider cross-section of society to learn about sustainable energy and contribute to the transformation towards a more sustainable future, we can create a more equitable and just society. In this context, engineering education can play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of leaders and innovators who will drive the transition to a sustainable energy future.

This course topic informs and engages students to be thoughtful, rather than passive, consumers of energy. Students gain the knowledge necessary to be articulate in career, community, and personal arenas regarding renewable energy resources. In addition, students develop the ability to evaluate and respond to present and future technological changes that impact their energy use in the workplace, at home, and in the community.

Recent advancements in technologies such as mobile computing, wearable displays, and real-world sensing have led to significant interest and investment in new ways of working with computers. These technological advancements have opened up new avenues for innovation and creativity, particularly in the field of Mixed Reality (MR). MR is a computer-mediated reality that blends the physical and digital worlds to create a new immersive experience. It encompasses both Augmented Reality (AR), where the user's perception of the real world is enhanced by a computer, and Virtual Reality (VR), which surrounds the user with an entirely computer-generated reality.

CAC will cover this topic in the DIT course to prepare students for a future where emerging technologies will play an increasingly important role. At CAC, the mixed reality topic will provide students with a comprehensive overview of the emerging field of MR. The course covers both theoretical foundations and practical development of MR experiences, from human perception and presence to tracking, registration, and interaction in MR. Additionally, the course delves into the technologies that make AR and VR possible, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using these technologies over traditional computing methods.

The mixed reality class is an excellent example of CAC's commitment to providing students with innovative and immersive learning experiences. It equips students with skills that are relevant to future careers and helps them develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

CAC is at the forefront of educational technology, providing students with a transformative learning experience that prepares them for success in an increasingly technological world.

The metaverse is a network of extended reality experiences that merge the physical and digital worlds, allowing individuals to access 3-D content in an immersive way.

The metaverse will be built by everyone (for example the company META is building for the metaverse), with creative and practical applications being developed every day by imaginative people. Students will learn how the metaverse will be applied in areas like healthcare, education, city planning, art, and surgical training —and how they can start creating these experiences today. They will also learn how the metaverse can make the world a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive place.

This course topic will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the metaverse, including its history and technological advancements.

Students will explore the ways in which the metaverse is already impacting our daily lives, and the potential implications it may have for our future. Through this course, they will gain valuable insights into the ways in which the metaverse is transforming various industries, such as medicine and engineering.

By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the fundamental  knowledge of the metaverse to determine future areas of interest, learning, or professional growth.
